Last week, we kicked off a four-part blog series – The Top Chefs Behind FANCHEST 2.0 – to get you more acclimated with each of the products featured in the new FANCHEST, launched on April 1st.

In our first post, we focused on Great American and the 24oz Double Insulated Stainless Steel Tumbler. today we’ll be shifting the spotlight on over to The Highland Mint and their 9” x 11” Wood Framed Stadium Image & Minted Team Coin.

A couple weeks back, we had the pleasure of hopping on a call with Kevin Draws – Vice President of Business Development for The Highland Mint – to learn more about the brand, its history, and the product that’s included in the new FANCHEST 2.0.

Here’s what we learned:

The Highland Mint is a full service minting company that was established in the early 1980’s, and is based out of a state-of-the-art facility located in Melbourne, Florida. The company initially focused on minting Topps trading cards during its infancy, doing so in bronze, silver, and gold, in limited edition versions of each. Over time, The Highland Mint expanded its operation, and began minting commemorative coins with a primary focus on landmark achievements and milestones of high-profile athletes and teams in sports.

In 1994, The NFL wanted to commemorate its 75th season, and approached The Highland Mint with the idea of making a special coin for each game as well as the Super Bowl for this historic year. It was so successful and well received that from that season on, The Highland Mint produced coins for every regular season game, playoff, Pro Bowl and one of the most watched events in sports, The Super Bowl.

This helped establish The Highland Mint as a leader in the sports memorabilia and collectibles industry. What started with a coin has now expanded to a full-line of sports collectibles commemorating championships, individual athletic achievements and the various teams and players.

The Highland Mint’s first NFL Super Bowl coin was made for Super Bowl XXIX,  but given how popular the replicas had become as a collectors item, The Highland Mint made the easy decision to go back to the beginning of the Super Bowl era and create replica versions of each one dating back to the inaugural 1967 season. Now, you can own all 53 Super Bowl coin replicas.

While The Highland Mint found its calling card – no pun intended given that they started out minting replica trading cards – they are now the only company licensed to produce and manufacture sports commemorative coins, they’re more than just a coin and medallion minting company.

The Highland Mint also specializes in framing and acrylic etching, and holds licenses with all four major North American sports leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL), as well as their respective players associations, and over 40 colleges and universities. They also take great pride in the fact that 100% of their manufacturing takes place in the U.S., and that even extends to the raw materials the use in doing so. Their American roots don’t stop there though; they hold licenses with all four branches of the military (US Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines), and do plenty of work in support of them.

When it came time for us to build a new product alternative to that of the FANCHEST 1.0, we took stock of consumer feedback, and decided that an inclusion of more premium and higher quality products would be the overarching goal for FANCHEST 2.0. It didn’t take us long to realize that The Highland Mint would serve as an ideal partner for us, and their agility for product customization and collaboration was yet another integral factor for us in making that decision.

After forging our partnership with The Highland Mint, we teamed up with them to produce the  9” x 11” Wood Framed Stadium Image & Minted Team Coin, which was built to fit our packaging. This specific size, framing and team coin is custom for FANCHEST, making it a pretty rare commodity and a potential collectors item in and of itself.
